Special Weather Statement
Issued by the National Weather Service at 2:59 PM CST on March 9, 2010
... Very windy conditions expected Wednesday...
A strong upper level system will move across the Texas Panhandle
and Oklahoma Wednesday. As this system passes... the pressure
gradient will tighten and wind speeds will increase. Strong west
winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts to around 45 mph are expected to
develop by late Wednesday morning across most of west central
Texas.
In addition to the winds... areas of blowing dust will likely
develop... reducing visibilities in many areas. Also... due to the
combination of these strong winds and lowered relative humidity
values... critical fire weather conditions will likely be reached
for areas west of a line from Brownwood to Junction.

Fire Weather Watch
Issued by the National Weather Service at 2:59 PM CST on March 9, 2010
... Fire Weather Watch in effect from Wednesday morning through
Wednesday afternoon...
The National Weather Service in San Angelo has issued a Fire
Weather Watch... which is in effect from Wednesday morning through
Wednesday afternoon.
A strong upper level system will move across the TX Panhandle
Wednesday. As this system passes... the pressure gradient will
tighten at the surface. This will cause west winds to increase to
20 to 30 mph with gusts around 45 mph across west central Texas.
At the same time... relative humidity values will drop to less than
20 percent. These factors... as well as high fire danger... will
result in critical fire weather conditions... and likely red flag
warning conditions for areas west of a Brownwood... to Brady... to
Junction line.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
Area residents are strong advised to avoid activities that may
produce outdoor flames or Sparks of any kind... and properly
dispose of lit cigarettes. Accidental ignitions will have the
potential to grow very rapidly into dangerous... wind-driven
wildfires.
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions
are forecast to occur. Area residents are discouraged from listen
for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.
